Two models, sketch and paint
A painted abstract figure beside a second, drawn in a clear black contour line. On the left a dense, grey and ochre cloud of paint fills most of the sheet, with a small, olive green sketched face peeking out from beneath it. On the right stands a completely different approach: a seated figure, pensive with hand against chin, entirely in a taut black line drawing without colour. The contrast between the two techniques — painted and drawn — within a single session shows how varied Henk van Dam's approach can be from one moment to the next.
