Model study, intense red chalk lines
Reclining figure, intense red chalk lines over a warm tan ground. The head, with dark hair, is sketched with quick black lines, while the body is largely carried by the vivid red chalk strokes running in broad, undulating arcs across the sheet. A second, smaller head on the right, in orange and dark blue, perhaps suggests a second figure in the background. The other is sketched with a more developed face. The intensity of the red against the warm ochre gives the sheet a glowing, almost feverish energy.
