Water, shore and ferry: a smaller study of the familiar crossing near De Woude. The canvas is built from solid blocks of yellow and blue, cut through by a row of small orange dots that seem to run across the water like a line of beacons. At upper left, almost hidden, a small window is painted with a faint figure inside — a glimpse of someone on board. The composition stays close to the flat plane: no depth is sought, only a play of colour fields that together evoke the sensation of a crossing.
