The Gratitude
A painting about connection to a place — gratitude for life on and around the water. An old iron boat lies at the shore, its hull dark red and black amid the mudflats, with a single mast standing straight up against a hazy, pale sky. Behind the boat stands a dense cluster of trees in a bright, almost fluorescent green — one of the few places where Henk van Dam lets that colour stand so unmixed. It is a quiet, almost motionless image: no people, no movement, only the boat and its place by the water.
