One of the circulades of the Languedoc: an old walled village reduced to stone, shadow and silence. The village walls stand in warm ochre and sand tones against a deep, unmixed blue sky — a contrast that recurs in almost every circulade canvas. A small window, with a touch of yellow and red, is the only sign of habitation in the otherwise closed façades. The paint is applied thick and dry, with scratches that make the stone feel almost tangible.
