A small study of a circulade — quickly seen, quietly built up. The village here is reduced almost entirely to an undulating green plane spreading across the whole canvas, with a narrow strip of pink and yellow roof just peeking out against a deep blue sky. A single orange mark on the right breaks open the otherwise cool palette. The rough, grainy paint texture shows how quickly this canvas came together — a sketch in paint, more than a fully worked composition.
