Stolpen
Stolpen on De Woude, captured in pencil — the characteristic farmhouses of the island. The pyramid-shaped roofs of the stolp farmhouses are built up with quick, repeated lines, the drawing passing over the same contours several times until the shape settles. Details such as chimneys and roof windows are sketched in with a few short strokes. It is a direct, unpolished drawing — not a finished study, but a quick notation of a shape that is, for Henk van Dam, inseparable from the island.
