Autumn storm
An autumn storm over the polder — the turbulent side of the season in gouache. A heavy, grey-blue cloud sky presses down on the land, thin electric lines of blue light flashing across it. At the bottom, almost drowned in the darkness, the faint shape of a small boat can be made out. Where the summer and winter canvases in the same series are airy and light, this is by far the darkest and most threatening — the season not as a backdrop, but as an unruly force.
