An impression of island life, in gouache on paper. On the left stands a dense row of yellow and green vertical strokes — reeds or grass against the light — while on the right a dark, navy-blue shape rises that reads almost as a figure, wrapped in shadow. The two halves of the canvas stand in strong opposition: light and bright against dark and closed. It is one of the more enigmatic impressions in the series, evoking mood more than narrative.
